Screens

Video wall

One video, several TVs. Turn on auto-generated playlists while you create the wall, then give each TV the playlist for its place in the grid.

Before you start

Pair one screen for every TV in the wall. Pairing steps are in the quick start.

Upload the source video under Content (Contenido). Wait until transcoding finishes. A video that is still processing is greyed out in the picker, with “Video is still processing — available once transcoding is complete” (“El video aún se está procesando — estará disponible cuando termine la transcodificación”).

Size the file for the whole wall. Dishplay cuts the uploaded pixels into the grid. Three 1920×1080 TVs in a row need a 5760×1080 video. A 2×2 of those TVs needs 3840×2160. A smaller file still slices, and each TV stretches its piece.

1. Pick a source video

In the portal, open Video Walls (Videowalls) and press Create Video Wall (Crear videowall). On a computer it sits under Manage (Gestionar). On a phone it sits under Main (Principal). The three steps sit on one page. The grid and the settings appear after you pick a video.

Step 1 is Pick a source video (Elige un video de origen). Choose the file. The name starts as the video’s name plus “ · video wall” (“ · videowall”). Press Change (Cambiar) to pick a different file.

2. Build your grid

Build your grid (Construye tu cuadrícula) asks for Rows (Filas) and Columns (Columnas). Both start at 2. Each stepper runs from 1 to 8.

The preview marks cells R1·C1, R1·C2, and so on. R is the row and C is the column, counting from 1. R1C1 is the top-left TV. Columns run from the left. Rows run from the top.

Leave the — Assign screen — (— Asignar pantalla —) menu on each cell alone. Those choices are not saved when the wall is created. Assign each TV from Screens after the slices exist.

The count says one playlist and one cropped video per segment (“una lista de reproducción + video recortado por segmento”). Dishplay always crops a video for each cell. It creates the playlists only when Auto-generate playlists is on, in the next step.

3. Name and settings

Turn on auto-generate playlists

Turn on Auto-generate playlists (Generar listas automáticamente) before you press create. It starts off. With it off, the slices can still finish as Completed (Completado), and no playlists appear. The wall page has no control that generates them afterward.

When the toggle is on, the rest of this step opens:

  • Enable synchronization (Habilitar sincronización) starts on. Leave it on so the TVs share a clock.
  • Anchor image duration (seconds) (Duración de la imagen de anclaje (segundos)) runs from 5 to 10 and starts at 5. The image plays for that long, then the video starts.
  • Anchor image (Imagen de anclaje) is required. Upload one, or pick an image already in Content (“O elige entre las imágenes existentes”). The form’s hint lists PNG, JPG, GIF, and WebP. Uploading a new image, and building playlists by hand, needs an owner, an admin, or an editor. A viewer can pick an image that is already in the library.

Name (Nombre) is required. Description (Descripción) is optional. Press Create Video Wall (Crear videowall). Each cell moves from Pending (Pendiente) to Processing (Procesando) to Completed (Completado).

Where each TV sits

A wall with 1 row and 3 columns looks like this from the front of the TVs. The left TV is R1C1, the center is R1C2, and the right is R1C3.

R1C1
Left TV
PL_…_R1C1
R1C2
Center TV
PL_…_R1C2
R1C3
Right TV
PL_…_R1C3
A 1×3 wall. Row 1 runs left to right. A second row would be R2C1 under R1C1.

Dishplay names the files from the source video. It drops the extension, accented letters, and any other character that is not an English letter, a number, or an underscore. A source named Menú.mp4 becomes Men. A source named Lobby Hero.mp4 becomes LobbyHero.

  • Cropped videos in Content: LobbyHero_R1C1, LobbyHero_R1C2, LobbyHero_R1C3.
  • Playlists, when auto-generate is on: PL_LobbyHero_R1C1, PL_LobbyHero_R1C2, PL_LobbyHero_R1C3. When Enable synchronization (Habilitar sincronización) is left on, each playlist starts with the anchor image, then that cell’s video, and sync is on. With that switch off, the playlist is only the cropped video and sync is off.

The names follow the source video. The wall’s Name is only the title on the wall page. On a Spanish wall page the same top-left cell is labeled F1 · C1. The file and playlist names stay R1C1.

Assign a playlist to each TV

Open Screens (Pantallas). On each TV, open the content picker. On a screen’s page, and in the list, that card is Current Content (Contenido actual). The screen grid has the same picker on each tile.

Choose the Playlists tab and the playlist for that physical TV. The tab says Playlists in the Spanish portal as well. The left TV gets PL_…_R1C1, the next TV to the right gets PL_…_R1C2, and so on.

Assigning a playlist needs an owner, an admin, or an editor. Manage screens (Gestionar pantallas) and Preview (Vista previa) on the wall page both open Screens, where you assign the playlist.

Check the TVs

Each TV should show its own slice of the same frame. The left edge of the picture belongs on the left TV. A TV that shows a neighbor’s slice has that neighbor’s playlist.

Troubleshooting

Segments say Completed but there are no playlists

The wall can read Completed (Completado) and still show No playlists yet (Aún no hay listas de reproducción), with “Playlists are created automatically once segments finish processing.” (“Las listas de reproducción se crean automáticamente cuando los segmentos terminan de procesarse.”). That note stays on the page when Auto-generate playlists was off. Waiting does not create the playlists.

Two ways forward:

  1. Delete the wall and create it again with Auto-generate playlists on, synchronization left on, and an anchor image chosen.
  2. Build one playlist per cell yourself. Creating a playlist needs an owner, an admin, or an editor.
    • Open Playlists (Listas de reproducción) and press New (Nueva).
    • Press Add content (Agregar contenido). Add the anchor image, then that cell’s cropped video. An image starts at 10 seconds. Keep it at 5 seconds or more, then press Set Anchor on the image. The button says Set Anchor in both languages, and it changes to Anchor.
    • Open Advanced settings · transition & sync (Configuración avanzada · transición y sincronización). Turn Sync playback across screens (Sincronizar reproducción entre pantallas) to On (Activado). A new playlist starts at Off (Desactivado).
    • Press Save (Guardar). Name the playlist so the cell is obvious, for example PL_LobbyHero_R1C1.
    • Repeat for every cell. Use the same anchor image and the same durations. Change only the cropped video.

Then assign those playlists from Screens, as above.

A segment stays Pending or Failed

On the wall, press Retry processing (Reintentar procesamiento). It shows when the wall is Pending (Pendiente) or Failed (Fallido), and it queues those segments again. While the status is Processing (Procesando), wait for it to finish. Confirm the source video is still in Content and has finished transcoding.

The TVs are out of sync

  • Each TV has the playlist for its own cell.
  • Sync playback across screens is On on every playlist. Playlists Dishplay generated start with the anchor image and have sync on when Enable synchronization was left on. With that switch off, they are only the cropped video. Playlists you build start off.
  • When synchronization is on, every playlist uses the same anchor image, for the same number of seconds, with Set Anchor pressed, then that cell’s video. Keep the item order and the durations the same on every playlist.
  • A screen that just received its playlist needs time to download the files before the loop looks locked.

A tile looks blurry

Each tile is a crop of the file you uploaded. A 1920×1080 video on a 1×3 wall is cut into strips about 640 pixels wide, and a 1080p TV stretches its strip. Upload a new source at the full wall size — 5760×1080 for that 1×3 — and create the wall again.

Deleting a wall

A wall cannot be edited after you create it. To change the grid or the source, delete it and create another.

On the wall’s card, the button is Delete (Eliminar). On the wall page, Danger zone (Zona de peligro) titles that row Delete video wall (Eliminar videowall). The button on the row is Delete (Eliminar).

After the wall is gone, open Content and Playlists and remove anything you no longer need: cropped videos whose names end in _R1C1 (and the other cells), and playlists whose names start with PL_.

Other screen problems are on the troubleshooting page.
